When to go

  • Spring (cherry blossoms, early–mid April) and fall (foliage, October) are the most beautiful — and the busiest, so book ahead.
  • Avoid the big holidays: Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Lunar New Year — things close and travel spikes.
  • Summer is hot, humid, and monsoon-prone; winter is cold but cheaper and great for markets and food.

  • Get a T-money card at the airport or a convenience store — it works on Seoul’s subway, buses, and taxis, and it’s the easiest way around.
  • Trains, not cars: the subway covers Seoul, and the KTX bullet train gets you to Busan in a couple of hours.
